Statistics is LOGICAL!
From Kirsten Reader: In an effort to bring a little more logic to the world of math, leave it to JAM to convince his AP Statistics class pink is really a Christmas color as it clearly represents the flamingos that pull Santa’s sleigh. I mean really, flying reindeer? Not statistically likely.
Middle School Capstone Presentations
All Grade 8 students spend one trimester in a Capstone Tuesday/Thursday flex time. A capstone project centers on investigating a question that ties to an authentic interest of the student. The project culminates with a product and a presentation. Product examples have included: creating a mini documentary, leading a workshop, or writing a poetry book.
Games, Anyone?
Upper Schoolers in the Design and Innovation elective course are working on constructing an oversized Connect 4 game and Tanagram puzzle pieces utilizing many of the tools in the makerspace including the “old fashioned” jigsaw!
An Apple (or Two or Three) a Day
From the Primary Two teachers, Meredith and Jennifer:
“Primary Two recently tasted seven different apple varieties and recorded impressions on a tasting chart. Students focused on different aspects of each fruit, including: sweetness/tartness, hardness/softness, and dryness/juiciness. The class learned this can be a challenge because not everyone has the same opinion on these things—and many of these ideas are quite relative. We have been talking a lot about how things are not always exact. This activity helped further develop the childrens’ understanding of this concept.”
