Winter Sports
HAC Athletics winter season is in full swing. From basketball to bowling to swimming our athletes are working hard to make their mark!
Grade 3 Math Fanatics
Grade 3 students have the opportunity to be “Mathematicians of the Week” by tackling an extra challenge problem at home. This week’s involved making a schedule by working backwards to calculate elapsed time for a dog show.
Coding Music & “Battle Warriors”
Dash is a small mobile robot that helps kids learn the basics of robotics and coding. Recently, Grade 6 created robot challenges outside of the technology room, weaving their robots through obstacle courses, programming them to play the xylophone, and (of course) “battling” each other.
Middle School + Nursery=Fun
Nursery Red and Middle School drama class joined together to play the dreidel game after reading “I Have a Little Dreidel” by Maxie Baum. This is just one recent example of inter-divisional collaboration that Harley faculty plan for our students. It’s part of what makes Harley special.
Elf Day
A beloved tradition brought to all students by the Upper School, and especially by Grade 12. Costumed senior class elves serve a special holiday lunch, provide musical entertainment, and a skit (for Lower School). It’s colorful, festive, and a memorable kickoff to our holiday break.
In Middle School, students are invited to wear their PJs to school and their faculty also dress up as elves. Fun games and special activities designed to build community and reinforce the importance of caring for others take place during the day. (Plus they are also served lunch by Grade 12).
Upper School is busy with a variety of community service and community-building activities. This year, US will be reading with the Lower Schoolers, making food for St. Joes’ House of Hospitality, sorting books to take to School 9, and making and taking baskets to the Hospice homes for the volunteers to enjoy. The second half of the day includes movies and activities organized by student council and a class party. Grade 12 elves serve lunch to their peers as well.
