Beyond Soup is an old Harley club that was brought back this year by 10th graders Lily O\u2019Brien and Maya Taylor-Bush. The purpose of this club is to make food to serve at homeless shelters. Due to Covid, the serving part of the club has been difficult to do, but on January 15th, the club met to make their first meal to donate to Reach, a local nonprofit supporting the homeless. The club decided to make a local classic, the Garbage Plate, using money from their fall bake sale fundraiser, and food items from their fall food drive to supply the ingredients. They cooked in the Commons Kitchen at Harley and then the club leaders delivered the meals. In the future, the club hopes to expand its activities even further, and to stay true to the name, going beyond just cooking food. Mr. O\u2019Brien says that he \u201cloves being part of a student-run club where there\u2019s so much energy and enthusiasm generated by the students for something beyond the classroom and themselves.\u201d He says that the club is always full of laughter, good ideas, and fellowship, while club member C-Z adds that there is a \u201creal sense of community.\u201d On March 19th, Beyond Soup will be serving stuffed peppers, mac and cheese, and strawberry shortcake at Reach.
