Beginning with the End
My name is Sam Gilbert and I am planning on pursuing my dream of multi media art and photography as well as life in the outdoors. I have deep seeded roots in the outdoors and it is somewhere that I flourish and truly love and I expect to spend most of my years exploring the unexplored northern regions of northern Quebec and western Canada by canoe. I am currently working on a van conversion, where I have taken a cargo van and am currently creating a home out of it so that I have the ideal means of transportation for not only my gap year but my life and career in the outdoors. Ok, now that the people that don’t really care are gone, here’s a list of the crap that I saw in 16 years. Two new buildings, a complete renovation of the buildings that I started in, countless floods, too many damn assemblies, 5 heads of school, Ward, too many teachers, too many bad pep rallies, even worse senior “pranks” (especially in the current regime), 6 or 7 science teachers in middle school alone, teachers yell at me for being where I said I would be in boston square, a dead fish on the sidewalk of Independence Ave., a fire drill because someone was a ripping a device in the art loft, a fist fight on a whale watch, leather head to toe, Raps got a chip, a TBI, the birth of a child, skirting with Krill, a global pandemic, the worst halloween parade ever, the worst elf day ever, the all salad diet courtesy of the lunches, a singular senior appreciation donut and coffee day and well we are only half way done with this and it’s not looking too hot right now.
I don’t hate this school, even though it may seem like it, I have after all spent 2,880 school days here, not including sports, summers and working hours. I’m just sick of this building and the people inside. I don’t like the idea of me being the face of a company or taking shit from your boss everyday for the rest of your life, it might be who you are, it might be who your parents were, it might be who your kids will be but it certainly is not me. Maybe your plan is going to business school then getting hired to daddy’s best friend’s office, that’s cool with me. Do your thing, pop off, if that is what makes you happy go for it but really don’t do something because you feel like other people want you to. Some people like to call the nine to fivers sheep, that’s fair I’m not gonna tell you to be the wolf just be a different fucking animal please, preferably one that doesn’t act like the rest. Do shit that makes you happy, not something that makes you rich and makes you think you’re happy. Do something that isn’t a chore, make it something you genuinely enjoy. I guess I’m supposed to leave with some advice and a quote, but I just don’t have one that fits. Noonway.
