Though Harley has had newspapers in the past, the school has not seen one in a while. “A big part of it was doing something involving Harley. We hadn’t been at Harley for a long time… it was something to do” says Michael. Due to the virus, they wanted to be able to bring students together after being away from school for such a long time. But because of the pandemic, finding article topics and things to cover would prove difficult. “There are things we anticipated being able to write about, like sports, clubs, and student council events. There is not as much going on outside of school as there normally is” says Wishengrad. With the cancellation of many sports and other gatherings, it’s been difficult to get together stories that, in other years, would have been easy to cover.

When asked about the possibility of a physical copy of the newspaper, both agreed one would be nice, “If you look at the yearbooks, it’s very convenient for people to have it online, but people also do enjoy having a physical copy, that physical aspect of it” says Michael. He wouldn’t be opposed to doing a physical copy at some point, but the feasibility of it poses a problem. “It might not be super practical, but it’s nice to have a real product that you can see and feel,” says Wishengrad.

Overall, they hope that by the end of the year, everyone who has worked on the newspaper learns a bit about journalism, and gets the satisfaction of seeing all their hard work pay off.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]

Last spring, Daniel Wishengrad and Henry Michael, two seniors, came up with the idea to create a newspaper at Harley.
