Dr. Perkins is a new teacher in the Upper School math department. She teaches four classes: Algebra 1, FST, Pre-Calc, and AP Statistics. Her entry into her current field was a bit of an accident. She originally studied psychology, but her research at the University of Arizona led her to an interest in statistics.  While studying the effects of learning under stress, she became interested in the accuracy of data from the results of her studies. This set her on a path of interest in Quantitative Methods and Evaluations. She has had a passion and interest in teaching math, and puzzles for a long time. A lover of patterns, she likes to approach teaching math from multiple angles and in unique and novel ways, as she understands many students’ frustration and wants to help them feel confident in their mathematical skills.

As an advisor to the GSA at her previous school, she was drawn to Harley because of its inclusivity. She also appreciates the importance of Harley’s microfarm and how the school integrates environmental awareness and sustainability into the curriculum at all stages of the school, including the interest her own child has taken in Harley’s focus on the natural world. Dr. Perkins also has a huge passion for video games. She enjoys playing on consoles such as PlayStation 5, X-Box, and Switch. Her favorite game to play is Portal 2, and her wedding cake even featured an important object from the game, the Companion Cube. You can find Dr. Perkins in her classroom, US-4, in the Upper School Math/Language hallway, across from Madame Colosimo’s classroom.
